A pedestrian stepped into traffic outside a crosswalk and was struck by an SUV traveling ~35mph, which threw him roughly 30 feet into the rear of a slow-moving unoccupied Waymo; the Waymo had detected the pedestrian 150 feet away, slowed to about 5mph, and stopped. Police and Waymo say the robotaxi was not at fault and the low-speed contact was likely not the cause of death.
