What happened

An autonomous (Level 2) demonstration bus in Hachioji's Takao area struck a roadside tree in August 2025 after a software defect caused it to read a stale (22-second-old) position and jerk the wheel sharply; three people suffered minor injuries. Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced the cause in November 2025 and recurrence-prevention measures on 2025-12-22.
