What happened

A low-speed (~8km/h) autonomous cart at Ehime Children's Castle in Matsuyama made contact with a young elementary school child crossing in front of it; the child fell and the cart's front wheel ran over the child's calf, causing a minor injury requiring ambulance transport. The cart lacked a collision-avoidance sensor. A separate cart-on-cart collision during the subsequent police investigation injured three more people.
